Prof. Malek GHANES is a faculty member at Centrale Nantes in the department of Automatics and Robotics. He is currently the director of the Chair on Electric Vehicle performances between Renault/Ampère and Centrale Nantes (CN). He is also the coordinator of the Erasmus Mundus Master programme E-PiCo+.
From September 2006 to April 2016 he was with Quartz-ENSEA, where he was an Associate Professor and the Head of the Department of Automatic and Electrical Engineering. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Applied Automatic and Informatics both from IRCCyN at Centrale Nantes in 2002 and 2005 respectively. Following his doctorate, he held a postdoctoral research position at GReyC for one year.
Prof. GHANES specialises in nonlinear control systems with applications in electric systems, particularly with electric vehicles (EVs), microgrids, power electronics, electric machines and renewable energy systems. His expertise includes differentiation/observation and control of nonlinear systems, system stability and robust control strategies. His recent work include innovations such as "Power Tower Function" for control design, adaptive observers for voltage monitoring, torque/position estimation in EVs and fault-tolerant control strategies for grid-connected inverters. He was recipient of the Best Paper Award 2014 from CEP IFAC Journal and the Applied Research Award 2015 from the FIEEC. Since 2024, he is the Associate Editor for Control Engineering Practice IFAC journal. He has published several journals, conferences and patents.
Prof. DI GENNARO is a Full Professor in the Department of Information Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of L'Aquila, Italy, specialising in the field of Automatic Control.
Dr. Kirstin SCHOLZ is assistant to the managing director at the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering at Kiel University and one of the two heads of the Service Center for Teaching at the Faculty of Engineering. Here, she is specifically responsible for matters relating to the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering and is - amongst other things - involved in coordinating degree programs, including the E-PiCo master's program. Dr. SCHOLZ received her diploma in electrical engineering and information technology (Dipl.-Ing.) in 2002 and her doctorate in electrical engineering (Dr.-Ing.) in 2008.
Prof. Mădălin-Corneliu FRUNZETE is currently an associate professor in UNSTPB and vice dean at the Faculty of Medical Engineering.
He is a Fulbright alumni after wining the grant „Creating value for university-industry approach” implemented at the University of Rochester (January 2023 - June 2023). He received his PhD degree in 2011, in electronics and telecommunications engineering at the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology, of the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest (UNSTPB), Romania, with a thesis entitled „Contribution in the field of cryptography based on chaotic systems using information theory and statistics”.
Prof. Bernardino CASTILLO-TOLEDO is a Full Professor and Researcher the Automatic Control laboratory in CINVESTAV Gudalajara. He is also a Level II member of the National system of Researchers (SNI, Mexico).
He earned his M. Sc. in Electrical Engineering from CINVESTAV in 1985 and a Ph.D. in Sciences from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1992. He completed postdoctoral research in Automation and Systems at the Laboratoire d'Automatique et Analyse des Systèmes in Toulouse, France in 2000. He was a professor at the Electrical Engineering Faculty of the National Polytecnical Institute in Mexico. Later, he collaborated as a part-time professir at ITESO and ITESM. He is a founding member of the graduate programme at CINVESTAV Guadalajara and served as Director from 2011 and 2015.
Prof. Dr.-Ing Marco LISERRE is a Full Professor and holds the Chair of Power Electronics at the Department of Electrical and Iformation Engineering at Kiel University.
Prof. LISERRE received an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Electrical Enginnering from Politecnico di Bari in Italy in 1998 and 2002 respectively. He began his academic career as an Associate Professor at the Politecnico di Bari and served as a Professor of Reliable Power Elextronics at Aalborg University, Denmark from 2012 to 2013. At Kiel university, he is the Head of the Power Electonics Chair and leads research in the area of highly efficient and reliable power converter architectures based on PWM technology.
His research interests include the integration of renewable energy systems into the power grid, electric drives, and the development of advanced control systems for power electronics. He has been recognised as a Highly Cited Researcher in the field of Engineering by Clarivate Web of Science from 2014 to 2021. In 2023, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology (ISIT) and Director of its new division "Electronic Energy systems". From 2025, he is acting as Director of Frauhofer ISIT. In 2023, he was honored with the titel of "Ufficiale" by the President of the Italian Republic for his contributions to the field of power electronics.
Dr. Hamzeh BEIRANVAND is a postdoctoral Researcher at the Chair of Power Electronics at Kiel University in Gemrany. He leads the Battery systems group.
Dr. BEIRANVAND received an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Lorestan University, Iran in 2014.During his undergraduate studies he was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Education. He completed a Ph.D. in 2020 focusing on control strategies and efficiency optimization of solid-state transformers (SSTs), a critical component in modern power distribution systems.
His current research interests include battery system components, such as battery cell modeling and optimisation, battery management systems (BMS), and power electronic converters for battery charging. In 2021, he was elected as a member of the Kiel Nano, surface, and Interface Science (KiNSIS) initiative. He serves as a reviewer for IEEE PELS journals.
